Runcorn 2-0 Burscough
Unibond Premier League Fixture
Tuseday 26th December 2000
Runcorn win another home game.
Although Burscough enjoyed as much possesion of the ball as Runcorn in this game they rarely threatened the Runcorn goal, The game was marred by petty free kicks given by the ref. Runcorn got off to an excellent start through David Ness, McNally's shot was blocked & Nessy pounced on the loose ball to score from close in.
The second half saw Runcorn come out with a little more determination & brought the Burscough keeper Taylor into action early on, (see pic 5) But Burscough hit back & Birch headed what appeared to be the equalizer but Ellis rose to head the ball over (see pic 4). Liam Watson did some great work down the middle & was causing the Burscough defense a lot of problems, It was only a matter of time before Liam was able to round his marker from a great through ball from Robinson & fired in a left foot shot into the top corner (pic no 7. 80 min). The game was then over for Burscough & time was then played out to the final whistle.
Pic No 1 Is Mike Mossley being tackled in possesion. The Burscough player appears to have lost an arm in this tackle.
No2 is football ballet style in the middle.
