Runcorn v Liverpool

Charity Game at Canal St 16th October 2000

Att 2,531.

Runcorn 1- 4 Liverpool                                                                 Runcorn 1-4 Liverpool

Runcorn gave a  tremendous performance against a strong Liverpool side sporting seven international players . The game was much closer than the scoreline suggests, Runcorn certainly deserved the one all half time score.

Alan Navaro putting Liverpool ahead after 20 mins with a close shot after some good work on the right side (picture No 4). But Runcorn hit back after 40 mins through John Mcallister following some good work down the left which resulted in a corner & from that Mcallister scored with a well placed header (Picture No 1).After the interval Liverpool pushed forward & after 55mins regained the lead through striker Ian Armstrong heading home a cross from the right , Runcorn missed a great chance to equalise that after 61 mins when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Mike Moseley.

Mike Smith missed the penalty when his shot was hit to close to the keeper & was saved,

Runcorn introduced six subs & lost there impetus  Steve Wright & Chris Thompson ended Runcorns interest with two more goals for Liverpool five minutes before the end.

Nothing can be taken away from Runcorn on the night & it was certainly a tremendous occasion for all concerned, Thanks must go to Liverpool for sending such a strong squad of players, & all at Runcorn for organising this game.
